Many people come to our Himalayan nation for mountain views and trekking, but if you miss out on rafting in Nepal, you have missed out on at least one of the “world’s best rafting rivers.” At Hardcore Nepal, we want you to enjoy the best of extreme adventure when you are here on your visit. So, here is our list of Top 5 Rafting Trips in Nepal, when you can join, how long it will take and the average price for rafting.

Sun Kosi River Rafting

This trip is named the “World’s Best River Rafting Trip” by Lonely Planet. So, it’s a no-brainer, if you can get on a Sun Kosi trip – do it! This trip departs from Sep – Jan and is available through most reputable rafting companies in Nepal. This is an expedition trip that includes camping for 8 nights, 9 days. Be prepared to spend 10 days as river and road traffic are unpredictable. If you have to choose only 1 rafting trip in Nepal, it should be this one. Combine with a short trek, like Poon Hill or Everest Mini-Trek, for the full Nepal mountains and river experience.

Kali Gandaki River Rafting

If you feel like water is in your soul, get on a Kali Gandaki white water trip where you can commune with the Mighty Goddess Kali. This river is appropriately named after Nepal’s highest deity who is known for both her beauty and her ferocity. The Kali Gandaki River has some class 3 and 4 rapids that compete with any roller coaster ride. This is a great weekend trip for those on a short stay in Nepal. It includes 3 days of rafting with camping along the river.

Marsyangdi River Rafting

You know that lovely aqua marine colored water you see on postcards from the Caribbean? Now imagine raging down a steep gorge, and a lot cooler, and you have the mighty Marsyangdi. This river is known for its continuous whitewater. (Seriously, find it on Google Earth; the entire river appears white.) In two days, you will get as much action as you can probably take. Be prepared for one of the fastest river trips you can imagine… Lots of rapids. This river is extreme and extremely fun!

Bhote Kosi River Rafting

Located at the border of Nepal and Tibet, the Bhote Kosi is a steep, technical river that is considered one of the world’s most challenging. Featuring many class 5 rapids, the Upper Bhote Kosi is for serious paddlers only. Every member of the paddling team should be strong, attentive, and prepared to follow every guide command quickly. There is little room for error when navigating a waterfall! Finishing this rafting trip feels like climbing Everest or running a marathon – you come out saying, “I can’t believe I did it. I DID IT!” Time to party and celebrate. Comparable to Upper Gauley River in the USA.

Trisuli River Rafting

Nepal’s most popular day trip river (but you can extend to two days if you want); the put in point for this rafting trip is just a short drive from Kathmandu. Many companies combine this trip with other activities or suggest you take this trip on your way to Pokhara or Chitwan National Park. At Hardcore Nepal, we combine this trip with our famous Canyoning Trip at Jalbire. We affectionately call this “Rock-n-Raft.” You will see many other companies now advertising Rock-n-Raft, but Hardcore Nepal is the original! Trisuli Rafting can also be combined with kayaking lessons, over night camping, or day hikes in the area. You can get on a Trisuli rafting trip nearly every day; year-round
